Sneak Peek of Chairing Styles 2020

With DEBUT just seven weeks away, Chairing Styles is coming together in a beautiful fashion. Several of the ten chairs designed by our students have been produced and delivered to the LA campus, and we grabbed a sneak peek to share with you.

Paired in teams of five (two fashion designers, two interior designers, and one textile designer), the students are creating two complete fashion looks, four textiles, and two chairs for each group.

Pictured above is the chair by Interior Design Student Mind Pachimsawat and Textile Design Student Veronica Voehl, and produced by local furniture manufacturer Gregorius Pineo, a longtime industry partner of FIDM.

Veronica incorporated graphic elements of morse code for love and peace into her vibrant design. So when Mind chose it for her chair, she named it the “MC Chair,” which she says is designed around form and function.

This chair was designed by Interior Design Student Linya Zao and Textile Design Student Nicolette Moyer. Nicolette said she is embracing the feminine in her design, incorporating a graphic treatment of the word ”womanhood.”

Chairing Styles is an annual immersive collaboration between three majors and industry partners who donate their time, expertise and fabrication, and this year includes Digi Fab and ten local furniture manufacturers: Ana Maria Designs, Form + Function, Sardo Interior Services, Cisco Brothers, Wise Living, Inc., Loni M. Designs, Posse Furniture, Villa Hallmark Upholstery, Gregorius Pineo, and Haute House.

Textile Design Students begin by creating four different fabric designs, which the Fashion Design Students use to create a look and the Interior Design Students incorporate in the design of a coordinating chair.

All of the chairs will be revealed at the DEBUT 2020 Runway Show on Friday, April 3rd, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. For more information and tickets, click here.
